ClosePete Bloomberg started his California negociant project, Llewelyn, while assisting some highly respected natural winemakers in Sonoma. His approach goes beyond organic, into honest, regenerative farming and no irrigation. While he doesn't own his vineyards, he sources his grapes from multi-generational family estates that share his philosophy. This 100% Nebbiolo is grown in Northern California, near the Oregon border, and rooted in volcanic soil mixed with red clay. Grapes are mostly de-stemmed and macerated on the skins for about a week before they're pressed into neutral oak, fermented spontaneously and rest for about year. The wine that comes out of this process is a tawny-deep, medium-bodied, complex red with balanced acidity and grippy, playful tannins as well as notes of green strawberry, white flowers, pine, smoke, and wet stone minerality. Pairs splendidly with panfried Polenta and Paremsan or beef tenderloin with creamy truffle sauce.
