CloseCo-founded by actor Eric Wareheim and California winemaker Joel Burt, Las Jaras has a playful approach to winemaking while embracing minimal intervention, natural winemaking that showcases terroir and which is on full display with this 100% Chenin from Mendocino. The grapes come from the Norgard Vineyard situated on a northwest facing slope on the east side of the Ukiah Valley which soaks up the afternoon and early evening sunshine. It’s grown on Pinole soils, which drain exceptionally well and are comprised of clay, sand and stones which support fertile cover crops and create ideal grape growing conditions. Harvested at peak ripeness, the small, concentrated berries deliver maximum flavors that evoke pineapple, pear, pippin apple, and lime pith with buttery undertones of vanilla and honeysuckle that are imparted by aging in new as well as old oak barrels. A stunning, substantial medium-plus bodied wine with deceptively crisp acidity, it pairs exceptionally will with grilled lobster, triple cream Brie, or a Mango Sago (coconut tapioca pudding)!
