2022 Il Verro Verginiano Pallagrello Bianco - Campania, Italy (750ml) - $27.5
Il Verro began in 2003 when five teenage friends from the 1960s returned to their hometown of Alto Casertano in Northern Campania to plant olives, walnuts, cherries, and four hectares of grapes. Their attention to biodiversity and conserving wild, indigenous varietals led them to Pallagrello, a formerly noble grape that had all but vanished. Farmed organically at 300m above sea level in volcanic, sandy soils, the grapes are hand harvested, de-stemmed and gently pressed into massive 10,000L stainless steel temperature controlled tanks where fermentation takes place followed by a six month elevage. This culminates in a lovely straw yellow hue with aromas of melon, almond, and white flowers enveloped in flavors of honeydew, honeysuckle, lemon zest, and mint with zippy acidity and a lengthy and pleasantly bitter finish. Pairs deliciously with Panko and Parmesan crusted baked scallops or sautéed mushrooms with garlic and fresh herbs.
NV Markus Altenburger Ois Erleben - Burgenland, Austria (750ml) - $30
Ois is the Burgenland dialect word for 'all' and Erleben translates to 'experience'. Thus, the vision behind this wine is to experience it all - flavors, colors, and energy by enjoying different grapes, vintages and aging methods in one glass. This unique skin contact white is a blend of Muskat Ottonel, Traminer, Welschriesling, Gruner Vetliner, and Sauvignon Blanc from five different vineyards. It includes base wines from 2022 to 2024 to create a well-balanced Solera style wine sans fortification - a common practice in Champagne and sparkling wines but less so in still ones. Using minimal intervention in both the vineyard and the cellar, grapes are hand harvested, macerated on the skins and spontaneously fermented in both large oak Stockinger barrels and concrete eggs where they rest from 4 months to 3 years. The result is a hazy, straw yellow, medium-bodied wine with silky but dry tannins that opens up with creamy aromas of peach and mandarin that lead to a vibrant palate of pink grapefruit and tropical fruit with a tangy, slightly sour note and saline minerality. Pairs deliciously with a strong cheese platter, crispy Pork Schnitzel or Spargel- a slightly sweeter variety of asparagus steamed and served in a Hollandaise.

Silky tannins mesh beautifully with this medium bodied chillable red. Enjoy alongside a savory onion and bacon focaccia or Coq au Vin.
2023 Noelia Ricci Romagna Il Sangiovese Superiore - Emilia-Romagna, Italy (750ml) - $32
Commendator Giuseppe Ricci acquired the noble estate of Pandolfa in 1941 and named it after his daughter Noelia who took over in 1981 and transformed the property into a farm and winery that's currently run by her great granddaughter Paola Piscopo. Situated about 250m-300m above sea level in calcareous clay soil at the foothills of the Apennines, just across from the Tuscan border, the climate and terroir are ideal for producing this compelling, 100% Sangiovese. Hand harvested in the second week of September to balance ripeness and acidity, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel while macerating on the skins for 28 days and aged for another 6 months. This results in a brilliant ruby red, medium bodied wine with aromas of herbs and fresh fruit, flavors of ripe cherry, raspberry, tobacco, and black pepper with dry silky tannins and balanced acidity. Pairs beautifully with Risotto Bolognese or Tortellini in Brodo.
