CloseMéharée, which in French, evokes images of long expeditions in the desert on camelback, is a nod to Perrine’s journey from north of the Loire all the way south to the Roussillon, which she has called home since 2020. It’s a medium plus bodied blend of 50% Syrah from 10 year-old vines planted on clay- limestone soils, plus 30% Grenache Noir and 20% Carignan from 80 year old goblet-trained vines rooted in limestone bedrock all in the Southern French Côtes Catalanes near Spain. Farmed organically and harvested by hand, the first passing o fSyrah is direct pressed while the second it de-stemmed and spends six days macerating on the skins while the Grenache and Carignan are harvested later, and fermented separately. This combination contributes to more balanced tannins in a rustic, yet approachable red that’s bottled without any fining, filtration or added sulfur. Ripe black cherry and raspberry flavors with a bit of puckery cranberry and just a touch or barnyardy funk open up in this vibrant, grippy red that pairs perfectly with Merguez, Cassoulet, Seven Bean Stew or strong cheeses.
