CloseSituated along the Eastern coast of Corsica, Clos Fornelli organically dry farms this 100% Sciaccarellu, a unique, indigenous varietal, that thrives in hot, dry climates and requires no irrigation. Proximity to the sea prevents dehydration and stress and the vines are meticulously pruned to prevent crowding on the vine, encourage air flow, and ensure that only the most pristine, ripe grapes make it into the cuvée. After a 3 week fermentation, the juice is aged in concrete vats for 7 to 10 months with regular stirring. The result is a light to medium bodied, ruby colored red with fragrances of spruce, rose, and wild berries. Ripe black cherry and raspberry flavors, racy acidity and gentle tannins emerge on the palate, followed by black pepper and briny olive notes on the earthy, mineral-driven finish. Compelling yet supple and easy sipping, La Robe d’Ange (angel’s dress) pairs well with grilled Corsican trout or Brocciu, a fresh, local soft whey cheese from goat’s or sheep’s milk.
