CloseThe city of Bairrada, derived from the root, “Barro” meaning “clay” in Portuguese, is situated upon clay soils which are ideal for wine in general and Baga in particular. With a minimalist, hand-off approach, St Joāo's Baga Novo red emphasizes the freshness and purity of this varietal. Harvested at optimal ripeness, fermentation occurs in stainless steel tank with a five day, cold soak maceration on the skins. The result is a clean and elegant, light-bodied red with fresh strawberry and rose petal aromas and subtle spice notes that’s crisp with a low abv of just 11% and light, gentle tannins. Serve chilled and pair with char-grilled lemon pepper chicken quarters or a lively gazpacho.
