CloseThe ‘Horny Owl’ is not a feathered freak, but rather the winemakers’ beloved nickname for the tufted-eared Cape Eagle Owl of the Kogelberg biosphere in the Western Cape’s mountains. The Elgin wine region falls in its reserve and this is where this Sauvignon Blanc is grown and harvested by hand. The winemakers opt for a low-intervention approach in the cellar. The nose is ripe with guava, lime rind, and pink grapefruit. Medium-to-light bodied, it’s juicy on the palate, with tropical and citrus fruit flavors, as well as subtle grassiness that's complemented by its piquant acidity and a touch of flint. This crisp, slightly puckery white pairs well with Ancho chili shrimp tacos or sea bass with sizzled ginger and spring onion.
