CloseWe absolutely fell in love with this zippy, electric Folle Blanche (aka Picpoul or Gros Plant), a grape more commonly used in the production of Armagnac or Cognac. Jean-Pascal Aubron, 4th generation vigneron, sustainably tends his family’s 84 mostly-contiguous hectares, that are all situated within 15 kilometers of his winery in Vallet, just outside Nantes. Practicing Lutte Raisonée, he avoids chemical treatments and allows cover-crop grasses to grow between his vines. Fermented in stainless steel with minimal sulfur added, the wine rests on its lees, a common step for the region’s Muscadet but atypical for Folle Blanche, in glass-lined tanks that are buried in the earth. It’s light to medium bodied with fresh peach, tangerine and lime zest flavors, a floral note and a whiff of sea breeze. Pairs perfectly with a beet, citrus and lentil salad, or a grilled cheese on sourdough.
