2022 Gut Oggau Winifred Rose - Burgenland, Austria (750ml)

We don't normally pay too much attention to color but the extraordinary shimmering mauve of this rose definitely caught our attention. On the palate, this hard-core natural blend of Blaufrankish and Zweigelt exceeds its lofty expectations. It's slightly petillant with a whiff of gaminess and succulent wild strawberry and cranberry flavors. Medium bodied, with moderate acidity followed by a mouthwatering finish with discernibly dry tannins, winsome Winifred transcends the category of rosé and enters the pantheon of great, world-class wines. Pair with something unique and intense like Shime Saba (cured Mackerel sushi) or Unagi-don.
