Teeming with ripe red fruit, crushed violet, and hearty herbs, this medium-bodied red from beloved Piemontese natural winemaker Nadia Verrua is aromatic and bright. It’s made up of equal parts Freisa, a Piemontese grape that’s akin to a wilder, more rustic Nebbiolo, and Barbera, which lends the wine its red cherry notes. The grapes are picked by hand and fermented with wild yeast, aging in a mix of cement, fiberglass and Slavonian oak for about a year before bottling without filtration. Lively with a touch of petillance, this wine makes a great pairing for a spinach and sausage lasagna or chana masala.
