The Petrelli Estate is located in Northern Puglia, in the region of Daunia, near the town of Lucera. This approachable blend of 60% Nero di Troia, 25% Montepulciano, 15% Sangiovese and a sprinkling of Bombino is named after the site next to his estate which translates to ‘Wolf’s Hill’. The grapes are picked from mid-September through October. They are crushed and destemmed, but leaving half the grapes whole. Fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, with pumping over. An elegant twist on an affordable wine, Motta del Lupo is medium-bodied with ripe, brambly berry flavors, a little rusticity and a firm dry finish. Pairs well with Italian hero sandwiches like eggplant parm.
