CloseFound at the southwestern border of Germany, Blankenhorn winery is nestled between the Rhine River and Black Forest in the sun-drenched region of Baden. It is currently run by owner Martin Männer and cellar master Yvonne Männer who took over in 2014. Using fruit only from certified sustainable vineyards in Schliengen, this wine is 100% Chasselas, more commonly known as Gutedel. The grapes ferment spontaneously before resting in 3,000L barrels for 10 months. The wine undergoes semi-malolactic fermentation resulting in a beautifully textured medium plus body. White florals and honeysuckle greet the nose with fleshy stone fruit and pithy bitters on the palate. A finish of saline minerality and a touch of waxiness makes this a great pairing for a savory soufflé with Gruyère and thyme. For a classic Swiss pairing, drink alongside fondue!
