CloseHailing from Ancenis, an obscure area of the Western Loire Valley that's more known for its Muscadets, Rémi Sédès is an adventurous young winemaker dedicated to showcasing the potential of Gamay beyond Beaujolais. His most well known cuvée, Trait Gamay, comes from certified organic, 25 year old vines rooted in schist and granite soils. Hand harvested at perfect ripeness, the grapes are then 100% de-stemmed before undergoing a 45 day fermentation on the skins. Once fermentation is complete, it is transferred to decades old 40 hecto-liter foudres before bottling without fining, filtration, or any added sulfur. The end product is a structured, light-to-medium bodied, pale ruby red with mouthwatering aromas of savory red berries and wet stones leading to flavors of juicy black cherry, raspberry and rose with earthy minerality, mild but dusty tannins and well balanced acidity. Pair this fresh, balanced red with Moussaka, Babaghanoush, or roasted Cornish game hen.
