CloseLocated in northeastern Portugal, Quinta do Poldrado resides in Trás-os-Montes which means ‘beyond the mountains’. This blend of 25% Syrah, 25% Bastardo, the local name for Trousseau, and 50% unnamed, old vine, indigenous varietals comes together to create a wine that’s both classic and unique. The foot-trodden grapes are fermented spontaneously in old granite tanks before aging in neutral oak for 12 months followed by another 12 months in bottle. The result is a well-structured, medium-bodied red with forest floor aromas, wild dark berries, a whiff of graphite and a firm, dry, tannic finish. Pairs great with a deluxe cheeseburger, flank steak or the local Salpiçao pork sausage with either sweet or hot paprika.
