CloseCarignan has existed in the Bekaa Valley for over two centuries and Domaine des Tourelles has been making wine from it for at 150 years. These biodynamic, mostly dry farmed, 50+ year old vines are rooted in clay and limestone soils about 1050m above sea level. The grapes are hand harvested, fermented with native yeasts in concrete vats, then aged in the same vats for around two years. They are then bottled with a minimal SO2 just to preserve freshness. The result is a beautifully balanced, medium bodied red with moderate acidity, and firm, yet balanced tannins that expresses the rugged nature of Carignan but wrapped in cashmere, metaphorically. It opens up with aromas of red berries supported by a floral, herbal, anise note that leads to a palate of cranberry and cassis with earthy clay minerality. Pair this stunning red with Crown of Duck, Lamb Tagine, or a Lebanese Mezza.
