CloseThis classic Right Bank Bordeaux blend of 60% Merlot, 35% Cab Franc and 5% Cabernet comes entirely from estate fruit that has been tended by the Pueyo family since 1853. Christophe, representing the 5th generation, took over in 2010, received organic certification the same year and has been practicing biodynamic since 2017. In the winery, he follows a fairly traditional vinification technique with aging in 25% new oak, 25% one-year-old, and the other half in cement tanks to avoid overwhelming the fruit. The resulting wine effuses a spicy nose of coffee and tobacco while the palate blends flavors of ripe currant and cassis, pronounced wet stone and granite, and cinnamon bark. The texture starts out silky but evolves into a firm, grippy dry wine as the tannins emerge making this a perfect pairing for a fennel and orange braised lamb shoulder, seared duck or a savory mushroom and leek galette with fresh thyme.
