Special Club Champagnes are made by an elite group of 29 grower-producers in the Champagne region. Made only in exceptional vintages (by unanimous vote!), the wines are then submitted to an expert panel of their peers and a select group of wine professionals for a series of blind tastings. Only after passing this rigorous vetting process, can a Champagne be deemed a Special Club (Club Trésors de Champagne in French) and only up to 2000 bottles of each can be produced. That’s a measly 167 cases for the entire planet!
There are only 7 grower-producers who make a Special Club Blanc de Blancs, meaning it’s made with 100% Chardonnay. Pertois-Moriset harvests by hand from vineyards planted in 1935 and 1995 on limestone and clay soils in the Côtes des Blancs, in and around the prestigious village of Le Mesnil. Farmed sustainably, they ferment in 7/8 stainless and 1/8 oak and age the wine on its lees for 5 years prior to disgorgement. Malolactic fermentation is blocked to preserve the wine’s steely focus and chiseled body. The result is a world class, crafted Champagne with fine, persistent bubbles and extraordinary minerality followed by subtle, toasty fermentation aromas and a long, clean finish. Pairs perfectly with caviar, raw bar or even a light, airy chocolate mousse with whipped cream and a strawberry on top!
