CloseMahón Gin is supposedly the very first Mediterranean gin ever produced, dating back to 1750 when Mahón on the eastern shore of Mallorca was a major British naval base. The base spirit is distilled from Xarello and Parellada, the main Cava grapes from Penedès and the juniper berries are aged for about 2 years, which concentrates their aromas. The gin is then made with the 'one shot' method where the spirit is vapor infused with juniper berries and possibly a few other local botanicals in a wood-fired copper Alembic pot still for about 9 hours. Only the heart is kept. Heads and tails are discarded. That’s it. One and done. The result is a silky textured, deeply aromatic Gin evoking flavors of lemongrass and cedar with freshly cut flowers and of course spicy juniper followed by fresh, citrusy flavors on the palate. Perfect for G&T’s, a Minorca with Limoncello and rosemary, or a Menorca Sling with lime, Sherry and marmalade!
