CloseCreated to capture the essence of the largest island in the Outer Hebrides, Isle of Harris Distillery doesn’t just produce world class gin, they’re creating lasting jobs, boosting tourism, and reinvigorating the local economy with the hope of providing for future generations. The key ingredient is sugar kelp seaweed that’s indigenous to the island’s rugged, remote North Atlantic maritime ecosystem and provides a unique salty, sweet, vegetal note. Combined with other botanicals—juniper, coriander seeds, cubebs, cassia bark, angelica root, bitter orange peel, orris root powder and licorice root—and distilled in a small copper gin still, it’s a compelling, subtly complex gin. Floral notes from Machair, the fertile, low-lying grassy plains that surround the distillery, pair with underlying spice, citrus and bitter notes. At 90 proof, it packs a punch yet is absolutely delicious neat, and also perfect in a martini, or their signature Pink Cèilidh Gimlet: Harris Gin, fresh pink grapefruit and lime juice, and sugar syrup with ice garnished with a slice of grapefruit.
