Tenmile Distillery makes some of the best farm to flask American Single Malts from 100% NY State grown malted barley in their custom copper stills and mash tuns built by Forsyths in Rothes, Scotland. Master Distiller Shane Fraser, also Scottish, brings over 30 years of experience producing single malt whisky to the Oblong Valley in Wassaic, NY. The Revolutionary Series was conceived by Joel Levangia, founder, GM, and history buff, to commemorate the battles of the War of Independence as we celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary. The entire series is comprised of 57 (!!) distinct whiskies, collectively known as The Whiskey of Reason. Not surprisingly, General Washington, the 57th and the last bottling, is the Crown Jewel of the collection. At an elevated 106 proof, this un-peated Single Malt as aged for 5 years in 30% Oloroso Sherry hogsheads and 70% ex-Bourbon barrels. Mellow wildflower honey notes and hints of caramel and cinnamon emerge from the barrel influences, which complement the spirit’s subtle cereal sweetness, dark cocoa, fig and tobacco flavors. Complex and smooth, the profile is most similar to a higher end Speyside Single Malt. Sip neat, with a few drops of distilled water, or with a rock.
