Tenmile Distillery makes some of the best farm to flask American Single Malts from 100% NY State grown malted barley in their custom copper stills and mash tuns built by Forsyths in Rothes, Scotland. Master Distiller Shane Fraser, also Scottish, brings over 30 years of experience producing single malt whisky to the Oblong Valley in Wassaic, NY. The Revolutionary Series was conceived by Joel Levangia, founder, GM, and history buff, to commemorate the battles of the War of Independence as we celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary. The entire series is comprised of 57 (!!) distinct whiskies, collectively known as The Whiskey of Reason.

On October 16, 1777 British General John Vaughn led 1,500 troops up the Hudson Valley as part of a campaign to take Albany and bisect the Colonies. On the way, they attacked Kingston in a reprisal against the rebels who had the audacity to declare it the capital of New York. Overmatched and outnumbered, the Colonial militia retreated swiftly. Rather than simply destroying military assets, the Brits torched hundreds of homes, businesses, and some surrounding farms. Although a few shots were actually fired, it was more an act of terror, than an actual battle. The massacre that left Kingston in ruins was ultimately a pyrrhic victory though, as the brutal, senseless burning of Kingston became a powerful rallying cry for the Colonists and a turning point in the war.

For the first time, Tenmile Distillery is releasing a 'smoky whisky', which is the closest they’ll get to an actual peated whisky. Aged for 5 years total, some of the spirit spends its first year in ex-Ardmore and ex-Laphroaig quarter casks, picking up their peaty influence despite the absence of peat in the malting process. It is then married with ex-bourbon-aged spirit to produce a subtly sweet, deceptively fruity whisky with a distinct whisper of smoke. Bottled at a sturdy 92 proof, sip neat, with a few drops of distilled water, or with a rock. It is simply wonderful.
