La Grange aux Belles is a cadre of friends making wine in Anjou, founded by Marc Houtin in 2004. La Chaussée Rouge is a medium-bodied, fresh, funky blend of 40% Cab, 40% Cab Franc and 20% Grolleau from 40+ year old vines across five communes in the Loire Valley’s Coteaux L’Aubance. Farmed biodynamically, the grapes are handpicked over up to five passes if necessary and sorted to ensure optimal ripeness before natural fermentation. The wine is then aged in fiberglass tanks to showcase the high tone berry flavors. Notes of strawberry and raspberry accentuate a palate of fresh cherry, graphite minerality, and a somewhat earthy, slightly barnyardy finish. Pair with rosemary roasted leg of lamb and fingerling potatoes or parmesan roasted delicata squash and brussels sprouts.
