CloseLouis Pere's Picasso Pinot Noir, from the commune of Laurens in the Languedoc, is an earthier, somewhat heartier version of Pinot Noir than a typical entry-level Burgundy. Grown in clay and limestone soils, the grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness under a warm September sun resulting in a medium-light bodied red a nice balance of fruit and acidity. Whole bunch fermentation over a period of two weeks is followed by aging in oak barrels for an additional 16 months. Aromas of red berry with a whiff of the barnyard give way to flavors of strawberry, raspberry and licorice, baking spices, soft tannins and great texture. Pairs splendidly with herb roasted turkey with sage, rosemary and purple potatoes.
