CloseIn the 1990s, Tamás Dúzsi founded his Szekszárd estate on reclaimed land that had been nationalized under communism. Alisca is a blend of 55% Chardonnay and 45% Riesling planted side by side on their estate vineyard. It's organically farmed and harvested by hand. 2024 was particularly hot and dry which translates to ripeness and intensity in the wine though it was harvested early at the beginning of August to maintain it's racy acidity. The grapes underwent a week of spontaneous fermentation in large open vats with an extra couple of days of maceration. The wine was then racked and aged in large old Hungarian oak barrels for a year prior to bottling without fining or filtration, and just a small dose of sulfur. The nose brings the aroma of sandalwood and bitter herbs while the palate expresses supple peach, citrus blossom, blood orange peel, and spice with dry, gentle tannins. Pair with spicy lobster bucatini and burrata or spinach croquettes.
