After a two year weather-induced hiatus, César and Louisiane of Barbichette are elated to bring back Chette Baker, their stunning and beloved skin contact Gewurztraminer. Their mission is to let the fruit speak for itself, which was basically silence in 2022 and 2023, but 2024 came gently roaring back like a fierce, yet cool Chet Baker trumpet solo. Whole cluster grapes are foot stomped into open air fermentors and left to macerate for 10 days on the skins with two punch downs daily, then pressed into old 38 hectoliter oak foudre for about 6 months on the lees. The result is a beautiful orange-pink hue reminiscent of a sunset. The wine is filled with aromas of lychee, pink grapefruit, and rose petal with ensuing flavors of star fruit, citrus pith, tangerine and manuka honey with light but structured tannins and lively acidity. Pair this gorgeous skin contact wine with slow roasted, crispy skin duck or Thai green curry with a side of Stan Getz and Gerry Mulligan!
