CloseTutti Frutti Ananas is a collaborative cellar helmed by Manuel di Vecchi Staraz of Vinyer de la Ruca and Joachim Roque of Domaine Carterole who were drawn to the steep, semi-abandoned, terraced slopes planted with old vines on schist soil just north of the Pyrenees and only a few hundred meters from the Mediterranean. Though the vineyards lie within the Collioure appellation, Magrana is declassified as a Vin de France due to its atypicity. A blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Carignan, everything is done by hand or with the help of their mules. The grapes are direct pressed before spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tank. The result is a pale red that’s so light and crisp that it can almost be considered a deeper rosé. Subtly effervescent with fresh red berry flavors, a hint of herbaceous, a whiff of barnyard, and pithy pomegranate bitters, it's a perfect pairing for an eggplant, pesto and mozzarella sandwich, or lightly fried crispy chicken tenders.
