Lujan De Cuyo, situated in the upper Mendoza valley, once known for its apple, cherry, and walnut orchards, is now considered among the best sub-appellations for Malbec. The grapes are grown on clay and sand soils at an elevation of 1000m where the Mendoza River is at the half-way point of its journey from the Andes mountains to the eastern plains. The region experiences large diurnal temperature swings resulting in increased ripeness while maintaining good, crisp acidity. Fermented in concrete tanks, then aged in stainless steel and neutral french oak barrels, Cepas is a well-balanced, medium-to-full bodied Malbec. Plum and spice aromas prelude a palate ripe red and black berries with round tannins and a velvety finish. Pairs well with a center cut filet and an herbaceous green chimichurri or sweet corn and black bean empanadas.
