Sanzon is a tiny organic low-intervention winery established in 2014 after co-founder and winemaker, Erika Rácz, inherited a small parcel of vines in Erdőbénye, Tokaj. Today, she manages 5 hectares, all tended and harvested by hand as well as certified organic. The Rány Vineyard is the crown jewel of her estate, comprised of pure stone rhyolite that gives the wines a powerfully distinctive minerality. The Furmint vines are 70 years old. Full bunch are pressed followed by spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tank and aging on the lees in 500 L Stockinger barrels for 8 months. The result is a crisp, medium-bodied white with puckery passionfruit and tangerine flavors, distinct minerality that reflects the soils and a hint of salinity. Pair with Harcsapaprikás, traditional Hungarian catfish paprika stew, or goat cheese stuffed cabbage.
