Teyssier is a classic, Merlot dominant Right Bank Bordeaux blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc from a few distinct Grand Cru vineyards on predominantly sandy gravelly soils, most of which are located a stone’s throw from the prestigious Chateau Monbousquet. The vines are double-guyot pruned, the secondary shoots are removed, and green harvesting is performed in order to reduce yields and increase concentration and quality. The grapes are handpicked, sorted by bunch and then, after destemming, grape by grape. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tank after a cold maceration and then the wine is aged in French oak – a quarter of which is new. This is a full bodied yet velvety, modern style of Bordeaux with black cherry and cassis flavors that culminate in a firm, dry, earthy finish with graphite minerality. Pairs perfectly with lamb stew or a thin cut of steak like hanger or flank.
