CloseGiuseppe Scirto and Valeria Franco have storied histories of winemaking stemming from working their family vineyards as children, so it was only fitting they started their own project once they inherited vineyards from each of their grandparents in 2009. This skin contact blend named after Giuseppe’s grandfather is made up of Carricante, Catarratto, Gracanico, and Minnella all hand harvested from 60-80 year old vines rooted in Etna’s famous volcanic soils. The grapes are de-stemmed before fermenting on the skins for 5-7 days followed by 10-12 months elevage in stainless steel tanks. They are then bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without any added sulfites. The result is a hazy straw yellow hue with light to medium body, great texture, and notes of peach, nectarine, orange zest with bright acidity and grippy tannins. Enjoy with a Red Snapper ceviche or mushroom stuffed Arancini.
