From cool climate, high elevation vineyards in the Sierra Foothills that are sustainably dry-farmed, Withers produces this rich, ripe, powerful 100% Syrah planted on deformed metamorphic rock with batholiths (granitic intrusions). Minimal intervention in the vineyards and cellars allows a sense of place for every wine that Withers produces. In the cellar, use of 5-15 year old neutral French oak barrels for fermentation and aging is in line with that philosophy. Additionally, Withers was the second winery ever to attain B Corporation certification with a core mission of giving back to the community philanthropically and championing environmental and sustainable business practices. This classic Northern Rhône inspired wine opens with floral aromatics reminiscent of lavender and violet, then proceeds to a full bodied, slightly gamey palate with ripe cassis, fresh blackberry and notes of graphite, white pepper. Medium to full bodied this is an ageworthy red that can be decanted and pairs effortlessly with hearty fare like roast rack of lamb or Cassoulet.
