Close2014 was a very warm year for North Fork growers which translates to juicy, rich fruit flavors, nice structure, and a velvety mouthfeel. The Corchaug Estate was planted with Merlot because of the unique clay that's fairly atypical of the North Fork and well-suited for the varietal. Released only after the wine was showing maturity, it's medium-to-full-bodied with aromas of wet leaves, earth, black cherry and violet. On the palate, it displays jammy black raspberry and cassis flavors, as well as a touch of barnyard, leather, herbal, and spice notes that emerge in older, classic reds as the fruit gently starts to fade and the tannins soften. Pairs well with a superior quality sharp cheddar cheeseburger or rosemary lamb chops with mint jelly.
