Mariona Vendrell and Albert Canela fell in love studying oenology in Tarragona in 2011 at the tender age of 20 and launched Succés Vinícola shortly thereafter. They began by making red wines from Trepat, a native Spanish grape almost exclusively used for Rosé Cava. They source the fruit for Succés fruit from older, organically farmed vineyards owned by local abuelos and continue to push the boundaries of what’s considered possible in the region with good farming and introspective winemaking. La Trompa is an exquisite light bodied red that sees a very short maceration before being pressed and aged for 4 months. The wine is pale and wild, with light barnyardy aromas and notes of flint, smoke, and tart cherries. Serve with a slight chill alongside an array of tapas, such as olive tapenade, squid ink calamari, Croquettes de Queso, y Pinchos Morunos (marinated pork skewers).
