Fred #9 is a funky and earthy light-to-medium bodied red from Zsolt Sütó, an organic winemaker in Strekov, Slovakia whose vineyards are located in the swampy marshland terraces of Pohronska pahorkatina. A blend of Alibernet, Dunaj, and Portugieser – all indigenous Eastern European grapes – ferment together in open barrels with naturally occurring yeasts before aging in old oak barrels. It’s juicy with mouthwatering ripe cherry and baking spices that are balanced out by pronounced earthiness and funk. Drink chilled with Peking duck or Bryndzové Halušky (potato dumplings with soft sheep's cheese and bacon).
