2021 Domaine Céline Jacquet La Surprise De Marc Jacquere - Savoie, France (750ml) - $23
Céline Jacquet makes this elegant white from Jacquère, a grape variety traditionally grown on the slopes of Savoie. She farms organically and harvests by hand. This wine is light, crisp, with floral and citrus notes. A perfect wine for Savoyard sausage, but fresh and zippy enough to pair with fresh water perch or a young, not-yet-stinky, Tomme de Savoie.
2022 Ippolito 1845 Cirò Mabilia Rosé - Calabria, Italy (750ml) - $20
The Ippolito family has been farming and growing grapes on the land surrounding their coastal country house in Cirò since 1845. This long history of viticulture in the family informs their commitment to the future of Calabrian winemaking. They use all sustainable farming practices and are dedicated to Indigenous Southern Italian grape varietals, such as the Gaglioppo used to make this rosé. Salmon in color, the Mabilia is fresh and delicate, with aromas of violet and strawberry met with flavors of sour black cherry, melon, and rose. Pair with Calabrian style Pasta e Alici (Anchovies), or Roasted Vegetables.
2021 Quinta do Poldrado Vinho Tinto - Trás-os-Montes, France (750ml) - $20
Poldrado is a great value, unique Portuguese wine made from 70+ year old vines of predominantly obscure indigenous varietals including Tinta Carvalha, Bastardo (aka Trousseau), Tinta Amarela, Tinta Gorda and Mourisco. Farmed biodynamically, harvested by hand and stomped by foot, it’s vinified in granite tanks and aged in stainless for 9 months. Light to medium bodied, it exhibits ripe, wild black cherry and blackberry flavors with a woodsy undertone. Crisp and clean with a nice dry finish, this pairs perfectly with Portuguese sausages like Salpicão and Linguiça or a juicy cheddar cheeseburger.
2022 Kolfok Intra! The Wild Red - Burgenland, Austria (750ml) - $28.5
Kolfok red is 100% organically farmed Blaufrankisch from cool north facing vineyards along the Austro-Hungarian border and among a broad array of cover crops. The bunches are destemmed followed by intracellular fermentation in large 600 liters (Halbstueck) to 1200 liters (Stueck) wood tanks with no fining, filtration, pumping, stirring or disturbance of any kind. Just a minimal amount of SO2 is added at bottling. This fresh, spicy, and bright natural wine showcases the varied terroir and non-interventionist winemaking style. Light-bodied and quaffable, it's low in tannin with bright acidity, fresh red berry and subtle green-pepper herbal notes. Pairs perfectly with spicy sausages and milder cheeses.
