2018 Weingut Schmitt Dry Riesling - Rheinhessen, Germany (750ml) - $28
This vibrant Riesling with racy acidity from the Rheinhessen delivers absolute pleasure. It's medium bodied, clean and crisp with flavors of green apple, lime, and stone fruits with a whiff of Riesling's telltale notes of petrol and gunflint. Produced in harmony with the land, Weingut Schmitt has been Demeter certified biodynamic for over a decade since Bianka and Daniel took over the reins of this historic estate. Hand harvested, direct pressed and fermented naturally with ambient yeast in neutral oak, it's bottled with no added sulphites, which is a testament to quality of the grapes and integrity of the winemakers. This versatile wine pairs well with Bossam, a soft stinky cheese or spicy sushi rolls.
2019 McCall Whole Cluster Pinot Noir Rosé - North Fork of Long Island, NY (750ml) - $18
At Gnarly, we love drinking rosé year round and this 100% Pinot Noir rosé from Cutchogue, on the North Fork of Long Island, is our cup of tea. The McCall family has been growing grapes sustainably and raising lean, cream-colored Charolais cattle since the mid 90s, thus creating a harmonic ecosystem. Pale and light with notes of red berry and bright citrus, it's crisp but not as puckery as a Provençal rosé which makes it a perfect pairing for turkey burgers or chicken enchiladas.
2017 Stephane Aviron, Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes, Beaujolais, France (750ml) - $26
Owned and operated by the same Marzovilla family that owns i Trulli on E 27thSt, the Massoferrato estate and vineyards are located in Impruneta, just south of Florence, on a perfectly pitched, south-facing slope. Their Rosso del Cinghiale is an unbelievably pleasurable Tuscan red that just puts a smile on your face. It’s a medium-to-light bodied, 100% Sangiovese that’s dominated by fresh red berries with Italian herb notes and silky tannins on the dry finish. Pair with La Rina’s Smoked Spaghetti or Pappardelle Rabbit Ragu!
2017 Rovellotti Ronco al Maso Colline Novaresi Vespolina - Piedmont, Italy (750ml) - $22
Produced from a minuscule 0.4 hectare vineyard, Rovellotti’s Vespolina, is an excellent portrait of this lesser known varietal that’s indigenous to Piedmont. Sustainably farmed and vinified, it’s fermented in stainless steel after an eight day maceration and aged for three months in botti. It’s light-bodied yet robust, with dry tannins and fresh acidity that frame a full spectrum of flavors from cherry and pomegranate to bramble and rose petal with a hint of tobacco. Pair with roasted pork chops and creamed spinach or a hearty vegetarian dish like lentils with chargrilled eggplant and thyme.
