2020 Day Wines Vin de Days Blanc - Willamette Valley, OR (750ml) - $25
Vin de Days Blanc is an Alsace inspired blend of 37% Pinot Blanc, 29% Riesling, 15% Muller Thurgau, 15% Pinot Gris, 4% Muscat from five different organically farmed vineyards in the Willamette Valley, Oregon. The grapes are pressed in stainless steel for 24 hours then removed from the lees as fermentation takes place with only native yeast. The wine then rests for a few months while it settles and undergoes malo which softens the acidity and gives this wine its silky texture. Medium-bodied with delicious stone fruit and pear flavors as well as a note of honeysuckle, Days white pairs perfectly with spicy Thai, roast chicken or a pungent Alsace Muenster.
2020 Swick What are We Red - Columbia Valley, WA (750ml) - $28
What are we? That is the question. We are an iconoclastic blend of roughly equal percentages of Marsanne, Grenache Blanc and Grenache Noir, from high elevation, certified organic vineyards in Yakima, Washington. The grapes are all vinified separately. Marsanne and Grenache Blanc are both direct-pressed white wines but the Grenache Noir is made as a red, not a rosé - whole cluster maceration, foot stomped once or twice per day and spends 30 days on skins. The wines are then aged in neutral French oak for 8 months, blended and bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur. Fresh & chillable this light-bodied red-white combo hits lots of high notes with pink grapefruit, wild strawberry, melon and pineapple with low but discernible tanninson the dry finish. A versatile, category-defying, shape-shifting wine that pairs well with anything from a stinky Morbier, to Coconut Curry Shrimp to Peking Duck!
2016 Massoferrato Rosso del Cinghiale - Tuscany, Italy (750ml) - $17.5
Owned and operated by the same Marzovilla family that owns i Trulli on E 27thSt, the Massoferrato estate and vineyards are located in Impruneta, just south of Florence, on a perfectly pitched, south-facing slope. Their Rosso del Cinghiale is an unbelievably pleasurable Tuscan red that just puts a smile on your face. It’s a medium-to-light bodied, 100% Sangiovese that’s dominated by fresh red berries with Italian herb notes and silky tannins on the dry finish. Pair with La Rina’s Smoked Spaghetti or Pappardelle Rabbit Ragu!
2018 Domaine Gour de Chaule La Vigneronne - Cotes-du-Rhone, France (750ml) - $22
The Domaine du Gour de Chaulé, situated in the heart of the village of Gigondas, was founded in 1900 by the great-grandfather of the current proprietor, Stephanie Fumoso but has been run by women for three generations. Their small production, Vigneronne Cuvee leads with 90% Grenache with the balance Mourvedre harvested from holdings in Vacqueyras and Violes.. Whole cluster spontaneous fermentation with an extended cuvaison in concrete tank where the wine rests for 18 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. It’s a ripe, medium-plus-bodied red with slightly stewed dark berry and plum flavors, moderate tannins and nice earthiness. Enjoy with a flaky quiche, charcuterie or good burger!
