Fukano, currently run by Shigeruriku Fukano, the fifth generation of this family-run distillery, dates back to 1823 in Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture. It’s situated near the Kuma River which supplies the water and lends a distinctive mineral note to this exquisite whisky. Fukano uses a combination of malted and un-malted rice to make their whisky and ferments in clay pots. Distilled once in a pot still, then aged in sherry, cognac, and new Japanese oak casks blended together, Fukano whisky is non-chill filtered with no caramel coloring added. The resulting whisky is delicately high-toned and layered with richness in structure. Overall, a balanced and deliciously nuanced dram! This special, very limited edition whisky is only available a few times a year. This particular edition is limited to 1056 bottles globally of which only about 300 made it to NY!
