Created in 1987, is the revival of an old family recipe by Augustus Bulliet, a Louisville saloon keeper, who made a high rye whiskey from the 1830’s to 1860’s when he mysteriously disappeared in route to New Orleans with a large stash of bourbon. The highway robbers must have noticed the gorgeous vanilla, nutmeg and maple notes wafting from Augustus’ barrels and pounced! The high rye content gives a bold, spicy character with a distinctively smooth, clean finish. Kentucky limestone-filtered water provides a foundation for the bourbon’s character, while charred American oak barrels lend a smoky backbone. Bulleit’s aging philosophy is simple: they wait until our bourbon is ready.
