Trenzado Valle de la Orotava is a unique, tropical offering from the Canary Islands, a volcanic archipelago located off the coast of Morocco. The Canary Islands were untouched by the phylloxera louse, allowing winemaker Jonatan Garcia Lima to work with old, rooted vines, some up to 200 years in age. The vines are trained using a unique method called Cordon Trenzado, wherein they spread out in long braids of wood, up to 20 feet from the mother trunk. From these vines, Marques harvests Listan Blanco (95%), a grape traditionally used in the production of Fino Sherry, among a few other indigenous varieties, for this selection. Medium-bodied and aromatic, with notes of guava, pear skin, and citrus, the palate shows bright, crunchy acidity and pronounced volcanic minerality. Drink with a Goan Recheado fish fry or etouffee!
