2021 Johannes Zillinger Velue Gruner Veltliner - Niederosterrich, Austria (750ml)

A second generation Austrian winegrower, Johannes Zillinger learned to see the vineyard as a living ecosystem from his father Hans, a pioneer of Organic growing practices in Austria in the 80’s. After taking over the vineyard, Johannes converted to biodynamics in 2013 and today is Demeter certified. He makes his Gruner Veltliner with half direct press grapes and macerates the other half for 6-7 days, and ferments in mostly stainless steel with some large barrels and amphora as well. The wine is beautifully bright, crisp and clean with notes of ripe stone fruit and yellow citrus, and a slight herbaceous, grassy note on the finish. A versatile food wine, try this alongside miso glazed chicken or tofu skewers, or cold noodle and edamame salad.
