Bodkin Wines is named after a type of arrowhead used with great success by peasant bowmen of England against the armored nobility of France during the Hundred Years’ War. The project comes from Chris Christensen – one of the most respected and influential Black winemakers in America (he’s also behind the Where’s Linus? wines), who is also a self-dubbed huge medieval history nerd. Chris founded Bodkin Wines in 2011, where he sources organic and sustainably grown grapes from vineyards across Northern California to produce his wines. The Light Skinned Zinfandel is light-bodied and round with notes of strawberry and watermelon, finishing with delicate tannins. It drinks somewhere in between a dark rosé and a light-bodied red, and is great with a chill. Drink alongside spicy pulled pork sandwiches or a grilled peach and burrata salad.
