2021 Anne Pichon Sauvage Orange - Ventoux, Rhone, France (750ml)

Anne and her late husband Marc purchased an abandoned farm house at the base of Mont Ventoux in the 1990’s to follow their dream of a bohemian, agrarian lifestyle. The vines on the 15 hectare estate had been completely neglected, were super-gnarly and thus, de-facto organic going way back, perhaps forever. Their micro-climate is ideal with dry, cool, Mistral breezes off the mountain and manually tilled soils that retain moisture, resulting in perfect ripening with very low susceptibility to rot or disease. This blend of 70% Roussanne and 30% Sauvignon blanc is harvested by hand, destemmed and left on the skins for 5 days in stainless steel. Gorgeous ripe stone fruit notes with a kiss of honeysuckle and crème brulée, crisp acidity, tangy citrus peel and a subtle fino sherry note make this a balanced, extraordinary orange wine. Pairs well with mushroom dishes, risotto and strong cheese.
