CloseThis certified organic, 100% Rotberger (Zweigelt) from the heart of Austria, embraces the best of both its parents: St.Laurent and Blaufrankisch. Since Hannes Scheduster took over the winery from his mother Rosi in 2007, he has embraced gentle and natural winemaking, utilizing spontaneous fermentation, long lees aging and minimal sulphur. He farms 40 small parcels in six villages that express the varied geological events of the Pannonian basin. After fermentation, his Rotberger matures for 8 months in old 3000-liter barrels. Aromas of black cherry and boysenberry lead to a firm, medium-bodied, deep, dark palate of black cherry and red berries, with moderate tannins, balanced acidity and distinct minerality. Try pairing with barbecued eggplant with a paprika rub, cold roasted gigante beans or a roasted, slightly charred chicken.
