Made from 100% Gaglioppo, indigenous to Southern Italy and best known in Ciro, Scala's red is rustic with ripe red berry as well as savory, black olive notes. The grapes are organically farmed in a an old vineyard, high up in the hills that was previously cultivated with olive trees and citrus groves. After harvest, the grapes are gently pressed to rein in the tannins and the finished wine rests for about a year in concrete tanks so there's no oak influence at all. The mouthfeel is plush but the finish is dry. Stay hyper-local and try with the chicken parm or Piegata pizza from Da Ciro, just a few blocks down Myrtle Ave!
