Hailing from the hills of the Ardeche, just to the west of the Northern Rhone, Les Marecos is a funky, full-bodied, entirely natural blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Merlot from a single parcel, planted on granitic soil. The grapes are hand-harvested for optimal ripeness and gentle handling, before undergoing a 3 week semi-carbonic fermentation in stainless steel tanks which enhances the natural beauty of the grapes while suppressing some of the harder aspects of the tannins. The finished wine rests in old barrels for 8 months and is bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal addition of sulfur. This unique blend offers notes of violet and subtle spices which are well balanced with a combination of bright red and deep dark fruit that’s both brooding and fresh. Try it with beef short ribs, rack of lamb or french onion soup.
