Juliénas, one of the 10 elevated Crus of Beaujolais, has the most varied soils in the region, which imparts a distinct, earthy character in its wines. A family-run vineyard for over 200 years, Granger employs a traditional vinification style - minimal treatments with flourishing cover crops, hand harvesting, whole-cluster fermentation and aging in cement tank. Clos des Poulettes exhibits stunning aromatics of ripe plum and violet with a hint of cinnamon. On the palate, this light-to-medium-bodied Gamay (which is on the hefty side of the Beaujolais spectrum) starts with a silky approach that’s followed by fine-grained, earthy tannins on the finish. Pairs perfectly with a stinky Camembert, but has enough depth and structure to stand up to a Lowcountry Buttermilk Fried Chicken!
