Made from a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Colorino and Malvasia Nera from a vineyard in the heart of Chianti Classico whose stone walls date back to the Ancient Roman era, this is a textbook Tuscan red. Intense aromas of wild strawberry and prune evolve into more spicy tones followed by a palate that’s medium-bodied with ripe cherry and plum flavors. Petroio completed a conversion to full organic farming in 2015. The grapes are harvested by hand, pressed gently and vinified in glass-lined cement tanks before spending an average of 10 months in mostly neutral barrels. The subtle oak influence contributes to its well-knit structure, ripe tannins and a firm, dry, earthy finish. Pairs well with classic Tuscan cuisine from ribollita - a tuscan vegetable and bread soup - to pappardelle with with wild hare or boar.
