The Commanderie Rouge is a traditional, honest, Southern French blend of 50% Syrah, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Grenache. Gathered by hand, the grapes are de-stemmed, crushed and vinified in cement tanks for a two weeks fermentation, followed by 12 months of aging, which undoubtedly contributes to the wine’s sense of harmony and openness. The Syrah dominates the nose with aromas of red and black fruit, white pepper and a hint of barnyard as well as rose petal. The Cab and Grenache round out the palate which possesses a fine structure built on ripe, velvety yet firm tannins and a subtle spice note on the finish. A wonderful accompaniment to grilled rosemary lamb chops, beef carpaccio drizzled in olive oil, or Mediterranean stuffed peppers.
