2010 Mongeard-Mugneret Fixin - Burgundy, France (750ml)

Pinot Noir is Burgundy's red-headed calling card, and this offering from Mongeard-Mugneret is a stand-up example of why Burgundy is the homeland of this stunning red grape. The young nose offers up pretty violets, strawberry, and fresh summer spearmint, and on the palate its well-married flavors of sour cherries and red plums, slate, dried thyme, and a touch of dark chocolate mingle and promise to get more interesting over the next 5 years or so. It's a bit of a special occasion popper, so head to your favorite butcher shop, nab yourself some wee cornish hens or maybe a pork tenderloin and roast it up dried cherries and fresh herbs with this one.
